The FAT Program is a research-based, rigorous training program for Florida State College Student Government Advisers.
The Basic FAT curriculum was established in 2007, and consists of eight educational sessions whose topics were determined from the results from 2003’s National Study of Student Government Advisers Responsibilities, with emphasis placed on the results from Florida’s community colleges. Advisers attending all eight FAT sessions receive a certificate acknowledging this feat.
The Advanced FAT (AFAT) curriculum was developed in 2009 based on feedback from FAT participants and from a review of Student Affairs literature. With eleven topics, plus attendance and presentation requirements, the AFAT certificate is difficult to achieve. Advisers must attend the six core courses and three of the five electives, plus present a FAT or AFAT session, and attend each of FJCCSGA’s five annual events.
The FAT Coordinators maintain a database of all FAT attendees and presenters, and send letters to each FAT completer’s College President and senior student affairs officer. You can contact the FAT Coordinators by using this email link.
The links here provide additional information on the FAT and AFAT Curriculum, a list of FAT and AFAT completers, and reports showing current progress of those advisers towards FAT and AFAT completion. Feel free to contact the FAT Coordinator with any questions about this program.
